Our dedicated team of service providers all shares in the success of the company.  Each brings their personal best to every reservation, and together our team has a reputation for delivering an exceptional guest experience. We couldn’t be prouder of this accomplishment, and we promise to work hard every day to continue to bring you the services you deserve and to earn your trust and return business.

Maryanne Aluzzo

1978-2022

In 2008 Maryanne Aluzzo, along with her husband Jamie Aluzzo, founded the now award-winning Uptown Salon & Spa, located in Westerly, Rhode Island. Maryanne served as the general manager of the salon, a true mentor to all she employed, and most of all, a caring and compassionate soul to anyone who entered the salon. Maryanne tragically passed away in March of 2022.

Her business philosophy was simple: To bring excitement, a positive attitude, and your personal best to whatever you do, and good things will follow. Her husband Jamie maintains ownership of the salon, while her staff continues to provide high-quality service based on her philosophy above.

We invite you to meet the incredible and talented team below.

Angela Pensis

Hair Artist, Colorist & Manicurist

I graduated from the Arthur Angelo School of Cosmetology in 2009. From there I began my professional career and eventually joined the team at Uptown Salon. I Have always known I wanted to be a hairdresser since I was a little kid. I love everything I do, from cutting, coloring, and highlighting, to updos. I would say my favorite head of hair is working on a natural "sunkissed" balayage. I continue to further my career by learning new techniques and trends. I am always looking to expand my knowledge and come back to the salon after a class to try on my clients. In May of 2022, I was certified in the Ouidad cut and style for clients with curly hair. As an Ouidad professional, I offer a comprehensive curl-focused service through various techniques for each curl pattern. I truly take pride in my work and most of all how I make my guests look and feel about themselves. I enjoy spending time with my two beautiful daughters.

Odemaries “Ode” Morales

Hair Artist, Colorist, & Makeup Artist

I grew up in Griswold, Connecticut, and graduated from Toni & Guy Hairdressing Academy in Cranston, Rhode Island. I specialize in all hair color services and am certified by Keratin Complex smoothing treatment. I am also a certified Loreal professional color ambassador. One of the ways I stay up to speed on hair trends is to follow influential stylists on social media. I also attend cosmetology shows and classes. Coming to work does not feel like a job to me, because I find pure joy in my work. I have a great passion for teaching and spreading knowledge to new talent in the salon whenever I can. My professional goal for every client is to give a beautiful natural color that will look good even weeks after having it done, as well as to educate the client on how to maintain and care for style. When not at the salon you can usually find me enjoying being outside on a walk or a hike or spending time with family.

I consider myself very fortunate to be in a career where I can do the things I love, such as transforming hair through the application of bold and vivid fashion colors. I'm part of a team of knowledgeable professionals that encourage and support each other. I started at Uptown after graduating from Toni & Guy Cosmetology School and right away I was introduced to a variety of different techniques, great personalities, and tons of exposure to everything hair. I also took over ordering the color product which is not a small task, but it taught me a lot about our color line and has helped me gain experience and confidence. As the Kerastase Ambassador, I am the go-to person for styling product questions, not only for clients, but I also take the lead in educating our team on new product launches. You might see me working as a Guest Service Expert sometimes too. I am trained to book reservations and I love to let our guests know about other service options in our Spa.  At Uptown I've built a reputation for fashion color application, and while this is something I love, I also appreciate my guests who prefer more natural looks. I've learned from the best here at Uptown, so I can provide a full range of hair colors and cuts to my guests. When I'm not here I'm spending time with my horses at my family farm in Connecticut, and I'm looking forward to a life balanced with work and travel adventures. I've already traveled to 32 states and 2 other countries!

I graduated from Westerly High’s Cosmetology school, and shortly after being licensed, I chose to continue my education at Paul Mitchell in Orlando Florida. This was a great experience, and it sparked a love for education that has kept me on the move – I’ve since attended Los Angeles’s Sexy Hair Academy, L’Oreal Professional’s Ambassador Program, 1-on-1 Bridal Styling Workshop with Alexandra Lee, and became Ouidad Certified at the Ouidad Salon in NYC. Ouidad is our curly hair brand for every and all curl types! We accommodate wavy, loose, tight, and coily curls with our products that penetrate internally for beautiful external results. Add new cutting techniques to remove bulk, and add volume and uniformity to your natural curl pattern. Now that my family has grown with 3 beautiful daughters,  I continue to be inspired by online education and the motivational videos posted by other successful stylists. Helping people feel beautiful and creating the art of each individual’s look is my strength. I’m also adept at a wide range of braiding techniques, varying from cornrows to bridal/special occasion styling. I enjoy teaching guests about the subtle nuances of their hairstyle and how they can maintain salon looks at home. When I’m not working I enjoy time with my family or taking the time to excel in my specialties -  which are curly/textured hair and bridal styling!

I grew up in the beautiful Charlestown, RI, area and received my training from Toni + Guy academy in 2020 in Cranston, RI as well as via the Loreal Color ambassador program. I love working with clients from all over who travel to Westerly for their summer and hear their stories, while giving them that special cut. I am passionate about my craft and am continually taking classes and following social media influencers to learn new techniques and acquire new skills. This industry is so fast-pace and always adapting, which I love! It's important to me to not only give my clients a great haircut or service but to also help them learn how to care for and maintain their cut after they have left the salon. This is especially true for my Balayage and Lightening clients.  I do this through educating, listening, giving my utmost attention to my clients and ultimately helping them feel like their best self on day of service, and the days to follow. When I am not at Uptown you can find me enjoying time with my 2 beautiful children on East Beach in Charlestown, or juggling or unicycling (but not all at the same time!)

I grew up in Westerly, RI, and attended Westerly High School. In high school at the age of 14 is when I first was able to learn about my craft in their cosmetology program. Through that program, I gained the basics, and then throughout my career, I've continued to develop my craft through experience, mentors, and online influencers where I make it a point to stay abreast of new trends in the industry.  My favorite part of coming to work every day is the joy I get in helping others feel good about themselves, and making sure I'm a positive influence and moment in their day.
I grew up in Queens NY but moved to East Greenwich Rhode Island in 1989 and to South County in 2000 making Rhode Island my home of 32 years.  It is where I chose to raise my four (4) daughters, where I received my undergraduate degree in English Literature, and where I chose to continue living while commuting to Boston College Law School where I received my law degree in 1997. I've been practicing the art of braiding for over 45 years. I absolutely love creating beautiful box braids, corn rows, distressed butter-fly locks, and dreadlocks.  I've learned and adapted many creative techniques over the years. My portfolio is extensive, and I really enjoy the consultations, which allow me to determine the grade of hair and the best type of braid to match my guest's desired outcome, life style, and unique personal goals. Few things can match the reward of creating a beautiful head of fully braided hair and seeing the transformation and joy that it brings to my clients. Yes, I have a busy life, but I do have a lot of fun.  When I'm not braiding hair or working at my law practice, I love to cook for my family and my family of friends.  I also love exercising at Wilcox Park and taking a leisurely stroll there while listening to audio books.  Hey, you might see me riding my bike to the farmer's market or to the beach, or popping into the stores of downtown Westerly and Mystic Village; if you do, wave I would love to meet you!

Manicurists

I always wanted to be just like my mother, who was a cosmetologist. That’s what led me to attend the Cosmetology Program at Chariho High School and take nail classes. There is so much fashion to keep pace with when it comes to nail color and design trends. Uptown clients often tell me how much they love it when I provide them with the perfect French or Shellac Manicure. I’ve been honing my craft since 2013, and what keeps me going is seeing how happy Uptown clients are with the services I deliver!

If you’re tired of run of the mill manicures found in every suburban strip mall and instead want an outstanding nail spa experience featuring the highest standards of cleanliness, look no further than Uptown. I specialize in gel nails; nail art, and mixing custom nail colors. Experience has taught me how to combine nail color pigments in order to achieve whatever hue or shade you desire. If you’re looking for something traditional, Uptown clients say I deliver the ultimate French manicure because of my perfectionism for sculpting and shaping nails. I left the Philippines at age 19 to come to America for education and a better life. I miss the simple way of life of my home country, but have found a family of sisters at Uptown Salon who inspire me, support me, and show me how to live an independent life.

My husband encouraged me to pursue my dream to become a manicurist, and I’ve not looked back. I've been a nail technician since 2016. Making the hands and toes of our customers look fabulous is my passion. I’m always learning about new products and the best way to apply them. Our customers come to us to look their best at the biggest moments in their life. When I am delivering a service, I appreciate the trust the clients have in me, and how they share details on the most important moments in their lives with me. This is why I enjoy sharing with those that I enjoy spending time with my husband and my son when not at the salon.

Estheticians

The biggest joy in my career is taking care of the amazing people that come to Uptown. I love strategizing with my clients to set long-term goals, and being a part of the self-care journey is truly an honor. When you make a commitment to your skincare routine, you will see the results, and I get so much satisfaction in being part of the process. Keeping our guests looking and feeling their best requires an individual treatment plan, and I always take the time to understand what’s happening below the surface so I can design a tailored solution with the highest quality skincare, services, and products. Understanding how nutrition can impact your skin is equally important, so I enjoy sharing strategies for improving skin from the inside out.  Because our clients live such big lives, I love pampering them in ways that leave them feeling relaxed, refreshed, and with a renewed sense of calm. Glowing, healthy skin is a great outcome too! I love keeping up with education and new treatment options. Some of my favorites over the years are dermaplaning, nanoinfusion for maximum product delivery, oncology esthetics, and the use of micro-current.     Just like my clients, I live a big life and take time to unwind (with a glass of wine) in my garden, spending time with my husband and 3 children, boating, yoga, and walking my dogs.
Being an esthetician is an emotionally rewarding profession because I get the privilege to help people feel great about themselves, and for me, that is what it is all about! My nickname is Liv and I graduated from the Empire Beauty School. Today I specialize in waxing and skin condition-specific facials.  On top of incorporating goal-oriented results, I make sure an abundance of relaxation and pampering are a part of the experience. Sharing skin care tips and expert advice that  advances my clients’ individual skincare regimes is a big focus for me. Another big focus for me is expanding my education by going to nursing school. When I’m not at Uptown, you can find me watching Lifetime movies or hiking with my dog Mickey. I’m so happy to be a member of the Uptown Salon and Spa team!

I started at Uptown working as a Guest Service Expert and soon realized that this is exactly where I wanted to pursue my career as a Licensed Massage Therapist. I recognized that the positive, upbeat environment, mingled with the luxuries of our well-appointed Spa was exactly the place where I could provide the very relaxing, feel-good massage for both body and mind that is my specialty. I now enjoy the responsibilities of Spa Coordinator, which allows me to pay it forward to our team and our guests by taking the lead in the efficient everyday activities in our Spa. I love meeting new staff and helping them learn the ropes and develop their skills and clientele.   One way I stay inspired in my practice is by learning new modalities to add depth and variety to my routine. I hold many certifications including Deep Tissue, Sports Massage, Thai Massage, and Cupping.  I appreciate that everybody is truly unique, and you can count on me to do a strong verbal intake so I can get to know your specific needs for each session. I’m a great listener and my long-term clients know how hard I work to ensure each massage has the desired outcome.  When I’m not at work, I am enjoying the company of my husband, daughter, dog (Primrose), and sipping iced vanilla chais.

I consider myself very fortunate to work in a field where I am able to enhance people's lives by alleviating pain. My career as a massage therapist has led me on a rewarding path of professional growth and development and I now specialize in therapeutic massage with the intention of helping my clients improve mobility and overcome injury. I have taken several extended courses to practice prenatal massage and enjoy variety in my practice as I work with mothers-to-be, bringing them relief as their bodies transition through pregnancy and helping prepare for labor and delivery. I work with many clients to help resolve chronic pain such as sciatica, plantar fasciitis frozen shoulder, among other issues. There's a lot that goes on behind the scenes in order to create and maintain a clean and efficient work environment for our team to perform at their best, and a welcoming oasis of renewal for our guests to be transformed. This is my strength! I received my bachelor's degree from the University of Rhode Island with a focus on hospitality, and I've spent my career working in hotel and salon, and spa management.   When I arrive for my shift each day I start by checking in with our guests, making sure you feel welcome, comfortable, and are enjoying your services and time with us. We don't always know what you are going through in your personal or professional lives, but we do know that you've come to us to escape, relax, and unwind. If we, as a team put a smile on your face and make you feel good, then we've done our job. I also love coming in to see my work family. We make a difference in each other's lives, we have each other's backs, we love to laugh together, and we've built rewarding relationships. Outside of Uptown, you might see me around Westerly at the local shops and restaurants.  I enjoy weekend getaways, kayaking, going to dinner with my family and friends, and of course vacations!

When I’m not working I enjoy time with my family or taking the time to excel in my specialties –  which are curly/textured hair and bridal styling!

It’s important to me to not only give my clients a great haircut or service but to also help them learn how to care for and maintain their cut after they have left the salon.

Through that program, I gained the basics, and then throughout my career, I’ve continued to develop my craft through experience, mentors, and online influencers where I make it a point to stay abreast of new trends in the industry.  My favorite part of coming to work every day is the joy I get in helping others feel good about themselves, and making sure I’m a positive influence and moment in their day.

I’ve been practicing the art of braiding for over 45 years. I absolutely love creating beautiful box braids, corn rows, distressed butter-fly locks, and dreadlocks.  I’ve learned and adapted many creative techniques over the years. My portfolio is extensive, and I really enjoy the consultationswhich allow me to determine the grade of hair and the best type of braid to match my guest’s desired outcome, life style, and unique personal goals. Few things can match the reward of creating a beautiful head of fully braided hair and seeing the transformation and joy that it brings to my clients.
Yes, I have a busy life, but I do have a lot of fun.  When I’m not braiding hair or working at my law practice, I love to cook for my family and my family of friends.  I also love exercising at Wilcox Park and taking a leisurely stroll there while listening to audio books.  Hey, you might see me riding my bike to the farmer’s market or to the beach, or popping into the stores of downtown Westerly and Mystic Village; if you do, wave I would love to meet you!

Samantha (Sam) Davis

This was such a strong passion that I decided to enroll in the Cosmetology program that my high school’s career and technical center offered. I fell in love with all aspects of this field and graduated in 2022 with 4 years under my belt. One of my biggest passions is making people feel good about themselves which is why I enjoy styling hair, giving manicures, giving pedicures, as well as waxes. I also enjoy serving as the receptionist on Saturday mornings here at the spa.

I consider myself very fortunate to work in a field where I am able to enhance people’s lives by alleviating pain. My career as a massage therapist has led me on a rewarding path of professional growth and development and I now specialize in therapeutic massage with the intention of helping my clients improve mobility and overcome injury. This is accomplished through my work of deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, sports massage, stretching, and myofascial work, along with added modalities of hot stone therapy and bamboo fusion. While firm pressure is my strength, relaxation and comfort are still the ideal goals. I love practicing massage and find it extremely rewarding to help relieve serious pain or discomfort for my clients. I look forward to continued learning and growth.

There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes in order to create and maintain a clean and efficient work environment for our team to perform at their best, and a welcoming oasis of renewal for our guests to be transformed. This is my strength! I received my bachelor’s degree from the University of Rhode Island with a focus on hospitality, and I’ve spent my career working in hotel and salon, and spa management.

When I arrive for my shift each day I start by checking in with our guests, making sure you feel welcome, comfortable, and are enjoying your services and time with us. We don’t always know what you are going through in your personal or professional lives, but we do know that you’ve come to us to escape, relax, and unwind. If we, as a team put a smile on your face and make you feel good, then we’ve done our job. I also love coming in to see my work family. We make a difference in each other’s lives, we have each other’s backs, we love to laugh together, and we’ve built rewarding relationships.

Outside of Uptown, you might see me around Westerly at the local shops and restaurants.  I enjoy weekend getaways, kayaking, going to dinner with my family and friends, and of course vacations!
